Can c*nect be a datasource for systems like Tableau, Qlikview, or other data visualization tools?

The simple answer is yes.  Many Business Intelligence teams have a big problem with data quality feeding systems like Tableau or Qlikview. In fact, some of the organizations we work with used to spend 70 to 80% of their time cleaning up data before being able to their real work.  c*nect simplifies the data staging process as it puts a simple and consistent process in place for the users that are generating data that feed into applications like Tableau or Qlikview while giving the data scientists the ability to drill down into transaction level data quickly if they need to.

What business problems can c*nect solve?

Some examples of business problems that c*nect solves are:

  • bringing disparate / disconnected datasources together into a single view for you to perform analysis, reconciliation, and transformation.
  • avoiding expensive reporting systems that require complex infrastructure and highly skill resources to support.
  • automating highly manual reporting and data management processes into real-time views and editing
  • reduce the amount of time and reliance on IT personnel to generate new reports and data management processes by providing you with an easy-to-use – “Excel Like” interface, allowing you to create your own applications

Can we replace Excel usage with c*nect?

While Microsoft Excel is a great tool ( in fact, we love it ), it does have it’s limitations.  Workbooks with complex macros or formulas, large amounts of vlookups, will encounter performance degradation as the data set in the spreadsheet grows.  We’ve actually seen instances that required 5 or more minutes for a spreadsheet to recalculate after each and every update.  Furthermore, there isn’t an audit trail and true multi-user capability doesn’t exist.  You can stop asking your co-workers “Can you send me the lastest spreadsheet so I can look at it?”.

We recommend that our clients continue to use Excel to develop new ways to look at their data as it is flexible and used by almost everyone working with data.  When they are finished, they can move their “personal database” to c*nect and receive the benefits mentioned above.

Does c*nect offer professional services for implementation and training?

Yes.  Depending on your level of technical and data expertise normally determines how much you will need.  We pride ourselves on the success of our clients, so we will be as involved as we need to be.

How long does it take to get started using c*nect?

Depending on the problem that needs solving, having required infrastructure, and your technical capabilities, it could be as little as one to three days. Typically, a normal installation will take 4 to 8 weeks depending on the amount of training and professional services required.

Can c*nect write data updates back to a source database?

Yes. One of the main differences between c*nect and other popular reporting tools is the “write-back” to source feature. While many reporting tools maintain the philosophy that you should never update data from their tool, c*nect’s approach is to provide the flexibility to address data quality issues, along with appropriate controls in place to ensure that a complete audit trail is captured recording who is changing the data. c*nect also allows you to upload data to the source to enable more complete reporting, including your own custom data enrichment.

Does c*nect capture an audit trail of changes to data?

Simply put, Yes. Many people currently refer to Microsoft Excel as the world’s most popular database, mainly because each and every user has very specific needs on how they need to use their data. Unfortunately, one of the main concerns with Excel is its lack of multi-user capability and not being able to capture “who changed what when”. Legal, Compliance, and Regulatory organizations cringe when they find out that critical business data is being managed in Excel, largely for the lack of auditing capability. The c*nect experience brings the same ease-of-use and flexibility as Excel while being able to capture a complete audit trail of changes for each and every field and record by user and date.

How does c*nect differ from other reporting or Business Intelligence tools?

First, c*nect is not just a reporting tool.  One of the main differentiating factors between c*nect and tools like Tableau, Business Objects, or Qliqview is that it provides functionality to allow you to “write-back” to your original data source.  For example, you realize that two systems don’t reconcile properly, possibly due to a data-entry error.  With c*nect, you can update the incorrect data at the source avoiding additional workflow.  Second, it is less expensive, requires less infrastructure, and has a faster time-to-use than most other tools.  Third, the interface is quite similar to Microsoft Excel, so most Excel users are able to start using c*nect in a much shorter time frame without training and are able to create their own custom applications.  It also removes a lot of the “fear” of adopting a new system since it’s familiar in user experience to Excel.

Can c*nect integrate with our pre-existing Corporate systems?

c*nect can connect to most any data source. This includes both enterprise custom repositories and most vendor data repositories. In fact, c*nect is often leveraged to expand the reporting capabilities of vendor solutions, personalized to the needs of your corporation. This is a very cost effective solution, rather than asking for expensive vendor customizations.

Can c*nect export data to Microsoft Excel?

Duh.
